Teaching

I never really thought too much about teaching in the public schools when I took the job. It was just a gig. It really stinks. I'm not completely sure what I was thinking. I've never enjoyed getting up early. I'm not particularly fond of children, so I just don't look at them like children. Apparently that's wrong. You aren't supposed to treat them like they have a brain or any maturity level whatsoever. (some don't, but then again some never do) We go to lots of teacher trainings that are supposed to teach you how to talk to them. What a load of crap.

And teachers themselves? Holy cow!! I thought being in theatre was politically challenging with who says what to whom and all that. The teaching profession makes theatre people look like a bunch of amateurs, or saints. You can't say anything to anyone without it going all over the building in seconds, and of course it isn't anything like what you really said and then you're getting a reprimand for something you didn't even know you were thinking. And I'm not really sure how some of these administrators got their jobs. They're the worst of the lot. It is good that provisional licenses only last for 3 years. I might have been tempted by the money to stay, but will be overjoyed when my license runs out and I can leave.

Wow, so this has been rather cranky. Sorry.
