What's going on??
Call Me Mister, Broadway Hit Musical Revue next American Century Theater's "Rescues" series Five Performances Only: June 15-17
The next offering in the American Century Theater's "Rescues" series is Call Me Mister (1946), an exuberant musical revue by Harold Rome (Fanny, Pins and Needles) with book by Arnold Auerbach. The show ran for 734 performances on Broadway. The title, Call Me Mister, comes from what WW II servicemen said when they took off their uniforms for good and re-entered civilian life.
Call Me Mister is a series of songs and sketches about the trials and tribulations of U.S. military personnel returning home from WW II and trying to adjust to civilian life. "The score has some of Harold Rome's catchiest tunes, and the sketches and spoofs of military life are brilliant, even today," said Tom Fuller, Musical Director. "There is also an open look at real-life issues such as those of returning African Americans who served in a segregated military returning to a segregated America."
With the permission of Josh Rome, the composer's son and artistic executor, TACT has reconstructed the script and score from original manuscript material in the Harold Rome Archive at Yale University. The "Rescues" series presents Equity staged readings of shows that are currently considered too large or technically demanding to produce.
With a cast of 29, in alphabetical order: Caroline Ashbaugh, John Bailey, Beverly Benda, Michael Bigley, Chris Davenport, Tom Dillickrath, Emily Formica, Christy Frye, Alice Fuller, Lauren Furjanic, Christine Gahagan, Miriam Ganz, Kristen Garrafo, Caren Hearne, Kate Kirby, Doug Krentzlin, Tracy Krulik, Steve Lebens, Steve McWilliams, Don Neal, Jeff Peterson, Joanne Schmoll, Amy Sheff, Adrienne Showker, Lonny Smith, Nelson Smith, Harlie Sponaugle, Marge Tischer, and Glenn White. Alvin Smithson is the musical accompanist.
Call Me Mister will be performed at Theater on the Run, 3700 S. Four Mile Run, Arlington, Virginia, 22206. Shows are June 15-17 at 8 PM, and 2:30 matinees on June 17 & 18. All performances are free, but due to limited seating, reservations are required. Call 703-553-8782 or visit www.americancentury.org.
So that's what's been going on with me. We have our preview tonite, and open tomorrow. Last night was the only rehearsal that the entire cast has been to. It's been a very interesting experience with them this time around. I enjoyed "One Touch of Venus" a little more, but this has been sort of fun. There are still some seats available, so if you can come do try. No one has done this show since it closed in 1947.
Exams are all wrapped up. I've got graduation to get through.......... well, actually I won't be at graduation. I"ll be doing Call Me Mister at nite, but I will see all the seniors start to walk at 6:30 and then I'm out of there. Turn in my keys on Monday and then it's summertime!!!!!! Until theatre camp starts that is:(
To those concerned, I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, it's been extrememly hectic what with the end of school, exams, juries, Encore closing, Call Me Mister rehearsals. I shall try to stay more up to date;) I'm just looking forward to spending lots of time at home .
OK, I hate Blogger right now, I've been trying to load some pictures and it won't do it. It keeps saying that they've been loaded, but they aren't appearing in the post. WTF!!!!?????

others have had picture loading problems - i do sometimes too and it is soooo annoying!!! You write a long blog to post and get excited and then it doesnt work - thank god its free or I would be complaining all the time
You complain Mark???? I don't believe it could happen;)
Thanks Donielle, I will try.
It sounds like you have an exciting summer ahead! As for "Call Me Mister", Rome has come up as a composer a lot lately. I sang a song from "Destry Rides Again" and another friend sang from "Fanny" in our audition workshop... As for fellow castmates- it sounds like a GREAT ensemble. Lauren Furjanic and I went to Shenandoah together (I think she was a year behind me- she's a great girl) and Chris Davenport directed a production of "Peter Pan" that I choreographed for the scariest group of kids I have ever encountered. LOL. Good times...
